Executive Summary
We seek skilled resources to provide comprehensive 24/7 Level 2 and Level 3 network operational support and support project execution (hardware refreshes, software upgrades) for a global financial institution.
This hybrid role combines operational support with production network engineering, requiring expertise in:
- NETCONF/YANG
- Network virtualization
- Core IP engineering
- Network security principles
Candidates must have competencies across multi-vendor technologies and a strong understanding of vendor-agnostic networking principles.
The role also requires leadership in incident management, knowledge sharing, and the ability to work flexible shifts.
Role Purpose
Provide high-quality network operational support, analytical capabilities, and production network engineering expertise across a multi-vendor datacentre environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Event and incident management (reactive & proactive)
- Standardised change requests
- Network product lifecycle support
- Delivery of strategic network infrastructure platforms and connectivity solutions
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 24×7 operational support for global networking, firewall, and load balancing technologies.
- Maintain and troubleshoot network equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and related infrastructure.
- Perform fault and performance management across large-scale environments.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex network issues, including hardware faults and logical problems.
- Collect diagnostic data, document incidents, and track progress in line with SLA requirements.
- Manage escalations, isolate incidents, and implement workarounds.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers for device and service restoration.
- Coordinate and implement break/fix activities, planned changes, patching, and maintenance following change management processes.
- Assess and amend existing network devices and configurations in a controlled manner.
- Make key decisions regarding fault or change impacts on users and infrastructure.
- Ensure all tasks and activities follow internal processes with proper documentation.
- Liaise with technology teams, business units, and third-party vendors.
- Participate in proactive tasks such as new project delivery, platform enhancements, and standards maintenance.
- Lead design, build, and operation of network products across OSI layers 1–7, including physical and virtual infrastructure.
- Work with virtual infrastructure ecosystems (OpenStack, Kubernetes, QEMU, KVM, HCI) and open networking technologies (FRR, Bird, GoBGP, SONiC, Cumulus).
- Apply strong network programming & automation skills using RESTCONF, NETCONF/YANG, Python, Ansible, SaltStack, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Manage network product lifecycle including requirements analysis, architecture design, platform selection, development, testing, and large-scale deployment.
- Implement NAC, RADIUS-based AAA, and zero-trust principles.
- Support secure and automated access for corporate and guest users.
- Participate in risk & control activities ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Stakeholder Management
- Gather requirements from product managers, service managers, engineers, and delivery teams.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure Services to deliver scalable enterprise solutions.
- Engage with end-users and stakeholders for validation and feedback.
- Provide SME-level consultancy on technical matters.
- Manage communications and updates to business and technology stakeholders.
- Maintain vendor relationships contributing to contract renewals and license oversight.
Person Specification
Essential Skills
- Experience in network operational support and production engineering within large enterprises or financial institutions.
- Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
- Strong stakeholder management and resilience under pressure.
- Solid understanding of LAN/WAN technologies and protocols (e.g., ACI-like fabrics, IOS-type OS, NX-OS-style systems, SD-WAN, BGP, OSPF).
- Knowledge of multi-vendor firewall platforms (Fortinet, ASA-type systems, microsegmentation platforms).
- Experience with remote access technologies (VPN clients, cloud security gateways).
- Proficiency with DNS/DHCP platforms (e.g., Infoblox), load balancers (F5, VMware), and proxy products (e.g., Zscaler).
- Strong TCP/IP and SSL troubleshooting skills (using tcpdump, Wireshark, etc.).
- Deep understanding of network virtualization, cloud, and automation concepts.
- Expertise with programming/automation and configuration management tools (Python, Ansible, SaltStack, Terraform).
- Familiarity with virtual infrastructure and open networking systems.
- Knowledge of NAC, AAA, and zero-trust networking models.
- Ability to work in rotating 24/7 shift patterns including weekends.
Desirable Skills
- Professional-level networking certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP, ACNP, equivalent).
- Experience with scripting & automation languages.
- Hands-on experience with MPLS, multicast, QoS, wireless technologies.
- Experience with network lifecycle management & agile methodologies.
- Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Knowledge of network instrumentation & SDN controllers.
