QA Technical Field Consultant

Role Purpose

This role is within Implementation Engineering Team as an Infrastructure Engineering Quality Assurance function. This role would contribute to deliver the network design, migration methods, infrastructure implementation and business cases for various network transformation initiatives for all domains in the Ciena DWDM network.

Working as the QA technical Field Consultant for any Ciena backbone infrastructure upgrades in the IQNet (optical), implementing QA functions on any activity in field (installation and commissioning), engaging with 3rd party subcontractors in a pro-active manner, project reporting to stakeholders and being accountable for final Handover documentation and Network Acceptance by NOC TX team, to deliver key customer services for Ciena.

This role entails high skills and experience delivering Ciena 6500 DWDM product and as DWDM Consultant.

Location: UK and Europe with Travel fully expensed

Function: QA Audit function within the Field for Operations & Engineering

Rate: Up to £250/day (depending on experience), plus expenses. Working outside IR35

Key Accountabilities

1. Field Engineeering  and Implementation QA of Ciena backbone infrastructure Capacity Replenishment in all the Ciena Optical Networks and expansions :
   1. CIENA IQNet Optical (6500 and RLS chassis, traffic & drop cards, wavelengths, new photonic sections, complex Raman settings and calibrations, migrations, cut-in works, new nodes/sites, MCP/1C NMS…)
   2. Complex migrations impacting customers (planning, execution, managing resources)
   3. Pre-project assistance, providing technical knowledge for new projects in DWDM design/planning phase
   4. Supporting first implementations of new technologies in Ciena Core Network
   5. Supporting Engineering to test new hardware in the field and in local nodes, provide technical feedback to adapt the Engineering guides with on-site implementations
2. Managing subcontractors for implementations (native language if necessary)
3. Project Management Reporting (fluent in management and communication)

Role Requirements

• Experience in a telco Service provider environment, planning/configuring/documenting network assets and inventory
• Deep technical skills in Ciena 6500 hardware, configurations, management system 1C
• Wide knowledge in communication rooms/cabinets, network deployment, infrastructure
• QA, Audit skills
• Fluency in written and spoken English is must; communication abilities with colleagues across Ciena
• Keen to travel and sometime working in night planned activities
